Punjab Issues Urgent Warning Over Fake E-Challan Scam Messages

Citizens across Punjab have started receiving fraudulent e-challan text messages, raising concerns about a growing scam that targets unsuspecting motorists. In response, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority has issued a strong public advisory urging people to stay alert and avoid interacting with suspicious links or payment requests.

A spokesperson for the authority clarified that PSCA never asks for bank details, account information, or any form of payment through SMS. Genuine e-challan alerts are sent only from the official government number 8070. Officials warned that scammers are now sending messages that closely resemble official notifications, attempting to deceive people into making payments through fake platforms.

Authorities emphasized that all PSCA services are free, and no citizen should send money based on unverified text messages. Anyone who receives a questionable SMS has been advised to report it immediately to police helpline 15 or the FIA Cyber Wing. Authentic e-challan alerts always include clear details, such as the type of violation, time, and exact location.

PSCA has also filed a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency to track down those operating fake websites and cloning government platforms. The authority stated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found misusing its name to defraud the public.
