Islamabad Fully Activates 21 Electric Bus Routes

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has fully activated all 21 routes of Islamabad’s electric bus service, marking a major milestone in the city’s public transport system. The move follows instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to expand affordable and environmentally friendly transportation across the federal capital.

Officials said the electric bus service is receiving an encouraging public response, with daily ridership steadily increasing. On a recent day alone, more than 102,000 commuters used the electric buses, highlighting their growing popularity among residents.

CDA Reviews Progress on Electric Bus Infrastructure

The update was shared during a high-level meeting chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa, where progress on major development projects in Islamabad was reviewed. Senior CDA officials, including Member Administration Talat Mahmood, Member Engineering Nifasat Raza, and Member Planning Dr Khalid Hafeez, attended the meeting along with project directors.

Participants were briefed that construction work on two electric bus depots is nearing completion, with 97 percent of the work already finished. Officials confirmed that work at Site A has been completed in full.

With all routes now operational, Islamabad’s electric bus service is expected to play a key role in:
