The Punjab Police has introduced a new examination-based promotion rule for traffic wardens, linking career progression to Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) exams alongside seniority.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr Usman Anwar announced that traffic wardens and senior traffic wardens will now be promoted to the next grade only after qualifying a PPSC-conducted examination. The move marks a major shift toward merit-based promotions within the traffic police.

50% Promotions Through Seniority, 50% Via PPSC Exam

Under the newly approved policy, 50 percent of promotions will be awarded on the basis of seniority, while the remaining 50 percent will be granted to officers who pass the PPSC promotion exam. Officials said the system aims to strike a balance between experience and competence.

A Punjab Police spokesperson confirmed that the PPSC will soon conduct promotion exams for traffic wardens, senior traffic wardens, and traffic officers. The examinations will be conducted under strict monitoring to ensure transparency and fairness.
